Jenn and I noticed there are many new people joining Instagram with some basic questions about the app. We’re always comparing notes about how to get the most out of Instagram and we decided to create Instagram Tips to share what we’ve learned. You can find it in the App Store (it’s free).

Favorite Finds: RegexKitLite, httparty

I needed to validate some UITextField values tonight and was hoping to use regular expressions for the job. I was happy to find RegexKitLite which turned out to be well documented and easy to use.

On the server side, I needed to integrate with an HTTP service and httparty fit the bill. Requests are easy and it automatically parses JSON and XML responses.

Gemma & Martin married in San Mateo

I’m so glad I got to photograph Gemma and Martin’s wedding since I know her sister from our college newspaper days at the UCLA Daily Bruin. I feel like a family friend at most of the weddings I photograph and this time I really was one. The intimate wedding was at a beautiful family home nestled in the hills overlooking San Mateo.

Cate Corbitt at Marin Headlands Center for the Arts

I jumped at the chance to work with Cate Corbitt when she was looking for a second photographer recently and I’m glad I did. One of the best reasons to work with another photographer is the perspective that comes along with watching someone do what they love and in their own fashion. Cate has an amazing way of putting people at ease, for example, and watching her make beautiful portraits in and around Marin Headlands Center for the Arts was inspiring.

I recently photographed Christine and Micah’s wedding at their family’s ranch in Salinas. It was so fun and relaxed that I felt like I was spending quality time with old friends while taking pictures. Christine and Micah are super sweet and have a ton of love for their friends and family.

I photographed Katie and Matt’s wedding at Wente Vineyards last month. What a beautiful spot tucked away in the Livermore Valley. It was a perfect day for an outdoor wedding and reception.

I recently photographed Margaret and Kevin’s wedding at Atwood Ranch in Glen Ellen just outside of Sonoma. It was an intimate wedding in an amazing setting on a wonderful day.

I recently photographed Melissa and Matt’s wedding at the SF Zoo. They’re both big fans of the zoo and now I am too!

My OneLight Workshop experience

I was at the OneLight Workshop in Berkeley yesterday and I’m amazed at how much we got through. It was a long day of softbox this and grid spot that, f-stop this and inverse square law that. Zack Arias is a seriously talented teacher of this stuff (it’s all just “stuff”) and it was fun hanging out with a bunch of talented photographers addicted to the craft.
